Kerala (Keralam in Malayalam) is an Indian state, situated south of its west coast. Pookalam: Floral Designs of Kerala
Pookalam is a colorful floral decoration on the floor. “Poo” means flower and “kalam” design in Malayalam. The tradition of decorating Pookalam is really popular in Kerala and is followed as a ritual in every household during ten-day-long (Atham to Thiruvonam) Onam Festivals. Lamps and lights are arranged on all sides of the Pookalam. Various hues of flowers are used to make the Pookalam. Several highly skilled people make Pookalam, which looks like a painting.
